Product Review: Quo by Orly Color Amp’d Nail Polish

Last week I posted a NOTD featuring the colour Fashion Forward, a Quo by Orly nail polish from the Color Amp’d line. I was really curious about this line as it is a seemingly new release in Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada.

QuoOrlyDisplay

Above is what the display looked like, $9 for the individual polishes ($11, regular price). They have a decent variety of colours that come in glitter, creme, neon, and holo-metallic finishes. I quite like the packaging, I’m not going to lie.

I have been doing SO well with my nail polish low-buy, and it has been way easier than I had anticipated! I guess the main reason that I’ve been refraining is because of my dilemma of not being able to bring even close to a quarter of my collection with me to Australia…the struggle. I’ll probably do a post about what I AM bringing to Australia….oh boy, have to choose wisely, but I have an idea.

Anyway, since the last update of buying nail polish,Read More »

NOTD: Cosmic Blue Dreams

NOTDbluecombo

Quick apology in advance, this is taken after 3 days of wear, inclusive of craft time with some six year-olds at school (school glue + glitter, intense nail polish wearage). I rarely layer polishes on top of each other because once you have about 4-5 coats of polish on your nails, especially with a topcoat, it’s annoying to take off afterwards, at least in my opinion. But when I DO layer polishes together, it’s usually with this combination!

NOTD: Essie Maximillian Strasse – Her

Maximillian strausse her

This colour was part of the Essie Spring 2013 collection and I’d describe it as a light seafoam green colour with hints of blue and grey. Some people would call this a straight out grey, but to me it looks a lot more green – it looks really green in the bottle relative to the nails where it shows more blue than green tones. It’s one of those confused colours, but the swatches above show it true to colour, so you be the judge! Although this comes from a spring collection, I actually wear it much more in the fall/winter and it’s a definite go to colour for me during those seasons. I actually bought this colour exactly two years ago as part of my friend’s birthday present, I had bought it a few weeks in advance…..but when I have nail polish in my custody for too long, it kind of grows on me, so as you can probably tell, my friend never ended up receiving this. *oops*. Not to worry, I gave her something else instead and she seemed plenty fine with it. 😛 I would have initially bought two (one for my friend and one for me) but I thought this would be too similar to Essie’s Parka Perfect which I own, but Parka Perfect is a true blue (I’m sure you will see this one on my blog in the very near future), so I didn’t bother. The application for this is really good, two coats is all you need for complete opacity, the first coat can go on a bit streaky but the second coat evens it out to perfection!

The Nail Polish Lovers Tag!

My blogging game is so weak due to being super busy this week (haven’t had much time to plan ahead and do things ahead of time)..so for the sake of not skipping my Friday post, I hope a tag will suffice! This was one that Luring Lacquer had done, so be sure to check out her responses! 🙂

What nail polish trend do you dislike?
I for the life of me CANNOT find a picture of this (the one time I actually LOOK for it), but I’ve come across this type of ‘nail art’ many many times. If I find a picture (once I figure out what they are actually called), I will be sure to put it up. It’s like foil nails, but with clear/transparent reflective coloured ‘foil'(almost looks like cheap coloured mirror paper or something), and people cut them into shapes, usually triangular, or just asymmetric shapes and stick them onto their nails, and sometimes these bits stick out over top of the nail….. I just don’t understand this trend. I like transfer foil nails though, but these are not that. I’m not very good at explaining this obviously…but if you know what I mean, comment below and tell me what it is!

If you could collaborate with any nail polish company which one would it be?
Essie! Their collections and colour range are so wonderful!

What nail polish did you buy just because everyone else did?
Essie’s Bikini So Teeny, I was not fond of the formula, it was too finicky and I ended up giving it away 😦

How do you organize your nail polish?
Due to moving about and not being able to bring all my polishes with me to one place, I keep them in shoe boxes (my most worn), and then one big drawer has my least worn/super old polishes. Back when I was in high school, I used to sort them out according to brand and colour, but ain’t nobody got time for that anymore.

What is your favourite glitter polish?
I’m not THAT fond of glitter polish, but I do have a couple favourites. Essie’s On A Silver Platter and Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure’s Crown Jewels are some of my favourites. I’m on the lookout for a really good cool toned silver glitter, if you have any suggestions, please tell me! 😀

What nail polish colour best describes you?
This was a struggle, but probably something that’s a blue-purple multi-chrome. Sometimes multi-chromes look like one colour, but then if you catch it in the right light, they shine bright and show their hidden colours. I may appear predictable and show a certain set of characteristics at first, but you have to dig a little deeper to find the true me. Things aren’t always as they seem. 😀

Who is your favourite nail blogger/youtuber?
Youtuber: Janelle ‘elleandish’. I’ve been watching her forever and love that she’s one of those people that has a completely different ‘life’ outside of Youtube as she’s an engineer by occupation!
Blogger: Karen Falcon from beauty geeks – if you want to see swatches for a new nail polish collection, she’s your gal!

What nail polish do you have a love/hate relationship with?
I don’t think any polish specifically at the moment, in general glitter polishes though. I love the way glitter looks, but I hate the process of taking it off!

What is your current nail polish favourite?
Can’t pick favourites when it comes to nail polish, that’s just rude! But some fall favourites are soft neutrals such as Essie’s Cocktail Bling and then on the other side of the spectrum, dark teals such as Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure’s Jungle Gem.

What collection do you have your eye on?
Normally I would say winter collections but I’m not completely blown away by OPI’s Starlight collection, or Essie’s Winter collection that is to be released, so I’m going to jump seasons and say OPI’s Spring 2016 collection (New Orleans collection)!

There you have it! I tag all you nail polish lovers out there to give this tag a go!
